A healthy battery is crucial in cold weather-and simple care keeps it reliable year-round.

**Why Cold Drains Batteries**

Batteries rely on chemical reactions that slow down when it's cold. Winter temperatures can cut your battery's starting power in half. At the same time, your engine needs more oomph to turn over in the cold. These two factors working together make winter the peak season for dead batteries.

**Battery Care Essentials**

Keep battery terminals clean and free of corrosion. Check fluid levels if your battery is serviceable (many modern ones aren't). Have your battery tested annually-most are good for 3-5 years. Before winter, ask our Service team to inspect it.

**If It Dies**

Keep jumper cables handy. If your car won't start, don't repeatedly crank the engine; that can damage the battery further. Our Service department can help with replacement or recovery.
