Insurance is a legal requirement and a smart financial safety net. Here's what you need to know when buying a car.

## Essential insurance basics

**Timing:** Arrange insurance *before* you drive off the lot. If you're financing, your lender requires comprehensive and collision coverage. Without it, your loan agreement is at risk.

**Coverage types:** Liability (covers others' injuries and damage if you're at fault); collision (covers your car in an accident); comprehensive (covers theft, weather, etc.); and optional add-ons like uninsured motorist protection.

**Your lender's requirements:** If financing, the lender will specify minimum coverage levels. Meeting those protects both you and the lender.

**Shopping for rates:** Contact insurers directly or use comparison tools. Your driving history, age, location, and vehicle type all affect cost. It's worth shopping around.

**Proof at delivery:** Have your insurance card or policy number ready when you pick up or take delivery of your vehicle.

Our finance team will review insurance requirements with you during the purchase process. **Call (847) 593-4700 if you have questions before then**-we're happy to help you prepare.
